Mentor Goals

The over-arching purpose of our mentor curriculum is to support supporting mentors develop their own knowledge of how to support an ITT trainee and ensure they are up to date with current pedagogical research. This will in turn support trainees to progress across the training years and ensure readiness for the ECT years. All aspects of the mentor training programme are designed to support that over-arching purpose with a focus on supporting trainees’ development, learning, progress and knowledge as a practitioner.

  • Mentor Curricula Structure
  1. Nuts and bolts training on paperwork, deadlines and operational information which is run by SCITT Leadership
  2. Pedagogy training which ensures that mentors are up to date and conversant with the evidence underpinning our curriculum (Mentoring Soundbites)
  3. Specific mentoring and coaching training (Synchronous to reflect trainee need in the Autumn Term Year 1, Asynchronous to meet Mentor CPD in Spring and Summer (Y1 onwards)

All Mentor Huddles will take place live, online on Zoom at 3pm on the last Thursday of each half term and will last for 60 minutes. The first 30 minutes of the session will be delivered by an expert practitioner from across our partnership or a CVPA SCITT Lead Mentor and the last fifteen minutes will involve mentors going into break out rooms, for a teach meet with other mentors in their group to discuss the practical application of the training with their peers and how you might best support trainees. The last 15 minutes will be around feedback for Lead Mentors about how they can continue to support School-based Mentors. These will also be recorded and housed on our Microsoft Teams Mentor platform.
